ZYGOTE BOOKS

Ex-Agnostic, ex-university teacher, ex-far-left radical and ex-con is the short description for Gerry Charlotte Phelps. Gold_front_cover_2

Arrested for armed robbery while teaching economics at the University of Houston, she was in prison for over 7 years.  There she changed drastically.

What she learned in prison helped thousands of poor people to move up later.  It also helped the churches she pastored later to grow and prosper.

In this book she shares those lessons and insights.  She wants people to understand that good can come out of even the hardest situations.  How that can happen.  And how to find deep contentment even when

there seems to be no hope.

After prison, she was ordained in the United Methodist Church.  Later she started and ran two very large homeless shelters (HERE and here), plus a charity to help people move from welfare to work.  She also pastored three churches, two Anglo and one Hispanic.

The charities had success rates ranging from 65% - 75%, and all the churches grew and prospered, in large part because of what came out of her prison experience.

She lives near her family in Texas and consults on poverty issues, criminal justice issues and church growth methods.
